Advocating For A Healthier Texas
On June 1st of 2022, I took a trip to Austin to testify in front of the Agriculture & Livestock Committee on behalf of the American Heart Association, the Partnership for A Healthy Texas, and the Sustainable Food Center. As an advocate for hunger prevention, I had the honor to address food accessibility and SNAP Incentives with our policy makers.
Being able to testify at the Texas State Capitol was full circle for me. As someone who dealt with food insecurity as a child, advocating for accessible nutrition in one of the most influential rooms in Texas really made younger Jaelene proud. My goal was to ensure that no person goes without healthy food, especially due to a lack of grocery stores or the rising cost of healthy produce. I am grateful to the American Heart Association, PHT, and SFC for allowing me to represent them in that way, but I want to encourage you to also take action on the issue with the American Heart Association here.
